Go for it • Joshua 15:16-20

There is this obscure passage in the book of Joshua that I came across again recently. Basically, Caleb’s daughter, Achsah, was married off to a man found worthy of her. You can find more details in the passage, but the interesting part is that she demonstrated faith like her father Caleb. He was one of the two people that were willing to enter the promised land when God told Israel to do so, but because of the dissenting majority, they ended up wandering in the wilderness for forty years. Once they finally arrived, Caleb demanded that Joshua follow through on the promises God made to him.

In this passage, we see that Caleb somehow was able to transfer this faith to his daughter. She says “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also springs of water.” She didn’t settle for what she was given, she wanted more of the Lord’s blessings and promises. There is a lot we can examine in this passage, but the simple takeaway for me at the beginning of a new year is this: Don't settle for anything less than what God has for you this year. Go for it!
