EXAMPLE
The children focused on the history of King Josiah. Although he was only eight years old when he became king of Judah, he was an outstanding EXAMPLE to his people, which stood for the theme of the day. Josiah purged Israel of all idols and restored the temple so that everyone could come and worship the one true God. Josiah’s actions for the Lord led to a great revival in Israel; the children learned that being a good example to those around them is a way that they can honor God and make Him known. Jesus, the ultimate example, led His kingdom through His love. Christ honored His Father and made Him known through His love.
May the Lord continue to grow each child into steadfast examples of Christ!
Activities
After learning about King Josiah and his example of honoring God, the children learned the song “Yahweh is the King” which speaks about the King of Kings, Jesus. They sang, “Ruler King, we are His; called to be kings and to please Him.” The game illustrated the theme of EXAMPLE by having the children play Telephone and CopyCat (one child stands in the middle of a circle with the other children. One child in the circle is the designated “leader”, and the other children in the circle have to copy what he or she does. The child in the circle must then guess which child is the leader.). A yummy snack of Rice Krispie treats in the shape of a cross meant to represent Bibles was served. Each child made a “stained glass” craft to remind them of the verse of the day.
“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.”
