Obedience is Required • John 14:21

There’s intense prayer going on for a “revival,” but there’s no revival on the horizon. Prayers for revival may seem to be much wasted energy. Why is that? Prayer fanatics believe that if we pray hard and long enough, then God will be inclined and be moved to respond. Instead, God responds with: “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,” and not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46). John Wesley defines a fanatic as “one who seeks desired ends while ignoring the constituted means to reach those ends”. In 1 Samuel 15:22 it says, “…To obey is better than sacrifice.” Obedience is essential for prayer’s effectiveness, along with self-denial, daily cross carrying, and humility. Jesus says, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me…and I will love him and manifest Myself to him” (John 14:21)
