More and More • 1 Thessalonians 4:1, 10

In 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, verses 1 and 10, Paul repeats a phrase twice which would be a good lesson for us to grow in more and more, and that is to abound or increase in Christ more and more. Elsewhere in scripture, John the Baptist said that Jesus must increase and we must decrease. Proverbs 9:9 tells us that if one gives instructions to a wise man then he will be wiser still; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. A clear sign of good spiritual health, no matter how long one has been a Christian, is whether we are still abounding more and more in purity, conduct, knowledge, wisdom, God’s grace, and in mercy. If I am not increasing more and more in Jesus, then I am decreasing in the potential influence and work God desires to do in and through my life.
