O Despicable Me! • Romans 7:15-25

There’s an inward battle between flesh and Spirit- a struggle between good and evil within man. Our sin-nature is ingrained in us, constantly in conflict with the Divine nature of God’s Spirit. We desire to do good, but we don’t do it. Instead, we carry out evil desires because we’re slaves to our sinful nature. Paul responds, “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 7:24-25) A true encounter with Jesus will rescue us from the bondage of sin. Thus, we’re no longer slaves to sin but slaves to righteousness. Christ’s divine grace saves us from our despicable sinful state. He died on the cross to sanctify and cleanse us by God’s Word, that He might present us to Himself a glorious church, without spot, wrinkle or any such thing, but instead holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5:26-27)
